Seeking an Assistant Winemaker at Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars in the beautiful Finger Lakes wine region of New York State. Since 1990, Lamoreaux Landing has been a leader in the production of food-friendly cool-climate wines from 100% estate grown fruit.

  • This critical position reports directly to the winemaker and provides technical collaboration to ensure superior wine quality at all stages of wine production- including crush, fermentation, aging, blending and bottling. The successful candidate will possess a solid understanding of winemaking and winemaking equipment, a strong work ethic and understand the importance of safety, cleanliness, teamwork and respect.Major Responsibilities:Responsible for the safe operation of winemaking equipment to support the daily cellar plan.
    •  Understands and complies with all safety procedures and rules for equipment and confined spaces, including training and PPE.
    •  Ensures work orders are executed in a timely fashion and all quality parameters are met.
    •  Responsible for cleaning barrels, tanks, fermentation bins, pumps, hoses, as well as transferring wine from vessel to vessel.
    •  Participates in the grape receiving process and juice/wine production operations during harvest.
  • Participates in fining, filtering, bottling and warehousing as necessary.
    •  Participates in blending trials and assists the winemaker in processing trials and experiments.
    •  Participates in vineyard work as necessary.
    •  Fork-lift operation with completed training.
    •  Executes special projects and other assignments related to production and winemaking.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement of winemaking processes and procedures.
    •  Maintains cleanliness of the wine cellar and related areas.Qualifications
  • Current valid driver’s License.
    •  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry moderately weighted objects.
    •  Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related discipline, plus 1 year of enology or viticulture experience OR 5 years of enology or viticulture experience.
  • Required to identify variances in wine color by sight and identify wine flavors by taste and smell.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
    •  Must be at least 21 years of age.

Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Candidate must be flexible with their schedule to support other operations as needed, especially during harvest.
