Benmarl Winery in the Hudson River Region is seeking a seasonal harvest cellarhand, September until mid November. We are a small family-owned winery producing 8,000-10,000 cases a year of premium wine. We use 100% New York State grapes from our estate vineyards and a small handful of our favorite vineyards in New York. We are located 60 miles north of New York City in Marlboro, NY.
This role will include a range of elements in the winemaking process, including but not limited to: vineyard sampling, occasional fruit picking, processing grapes and using processing equipment such as crusher, destemmer, press, pumps, racking juice/wine, inoculations, additions, basic analysis for brix/temp, cap management (punch downs and pump overs), barreling, bottling, and plenty of cleaning.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Position requires repetitive squatting, pushing, pulling, carrying hoses and equipment, standing and walking on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time. Position also requires basic math, reading, writing, and record keeping in English language. Conditions might be hot, sunny, cold, sticky, wet, or loud at times. Many days require several hours of overtime, including evenings and weekends. Candidates need to have a reliable source of transportation. Attention to detail, positive attitude, a sense of humor and reasonable taste in music are necessary. (For as professional as this post is, we’re actually really fun people who like harvest to be a good time!)  A keen interest in wine and sensory evaluation are desired.
Ideal candidates will have a background in wine and beverage, previous cellar or harvest experience. Forklift experience is a plus.
Compensation: $16/hr + overtime beyond 40 hours a week.
